EAT WELL FOR LESS? 8PM, BBC1

THE show that shows you how to shop wisely and still create fabulous meals returns with a timely new series. Gregg Wallace has taken his leave, so Chris Bavin has a new partner — the dancer, radio presenter and busy father-of-two Jordan Banjo. First, the duo (pictured) head to Scotland to meet Karen and Andy, who live near Glasgow with their five-year-old triplets, Alyssia, Poppy and Caleb. The couple have their hands full and need help, particularly as Caleb has serious medical issues. With the family needing to make frequent hospital visits, many good intentions and healthy eating plans have fallen by the wayside, leaving them relying on quick fixes and ready meals — and much of the food Karen had planned to cook ending up in the bin. What’s more, Karen is on a mission to get fit and has been stocking up on protein products, which don’t come cheap, while Andy has developed an unhealthy reliance on fizzy drinks. And with the couple hit in the pocket by the pandemic, some timely advice couldn’t come soon enough — can Chris and Jordan help them to get their spending back on track while putting tasty meals on the table? Rather handily, we’ll also find out the difference between ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates, and Jordan shows Chris how to rustle up a sweet treat that makes use of what many of us throw out.
