Spurs boss Conte targets McGinn
JOHN McGINN has emerged as a summer transfer target for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte. The 27-year-old Scotland international has been one of the top performers at Aston Villa since his £2.5million switch from Hibs in 2018, with the Easter Road club due a windfall from a sell-on clause if he makes the move. The midfielder scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 Championship play-off final win against Derby in 2019 that clinched the Birmingham side’s promotion. He has since continued to impress in the Premier League, first under Dean Smith and now with former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard in charge. Under contract at Villa Park until 2025, McGinn has caught the eye of Conte, whose side need a point at relegated Norwich on Sunday to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The Italian is looking to add up to six new players over the summer and he is keen on recruiting ex-St Mirren star McGinn, who was recently named Scotland’s international Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers’ Association.
