Wanted! White van man who killed ducklings

POLICE were last night seeking a white van man reported to have deliberately ran over three ducklings.

Staffordshire Police said officers were investigating a van allegedly mowing down the ducklings as they followed their mother across the road in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, on Friday. The incident was shared on Facebook by Steven Walley, who was behind the van.

He wrote: ‘I’ve just been driving on the A34 at Trentham Gardens roundabout when a family of seven ducklings were crossing the road.

‘All the traffic stopped to let them cross but disgustingly this van driver, after initially stopping, could not then wait for the five seconds it would have taken to let them cross and drove straight over them, crushing three of them.’

Mr Walley, 43, from Stone, Staffordshire, said he followed the van and had a ‘very heated conversation’ with the driver. The post – with images of the vehicle and the dead ducklings – was shared more than 2,000 times.

Police said: ‘We have made contact with the author of the post and are establishing potential offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.’
