Plane crazy! Gatwick passengers panic at Welcome to Luton prank

- By Imogen Horton

THE quiet town of Luton no doubt has its own unique charms.

But plane passengers could be forgiven for being less than thrilled when they spotted a ‘Welcome to Luton’ sign upon landing – not least because the 60-metre greeting has been installed on the approach to Gatwick in West Sussex, a mere 60 miles south of Luton airport.

Passengers described being in a ‘state of panic’ when they spotted it. YouTube prankster Max Fosh has claimed he was behind it and has apologised if ‘anyone has been seriously thrown’. ‘If you’re flying into Gatwick look out your left window and you should see it about 90 seconds before landing,’ he said. The letters cost Mr Fosh £4,000. He has permission to leave the sign in place for six weeks.
