Kilty slams Prescod stance on doper
rIcharD KILTY has torn
into reece Prescod after his sprint team-mate’s ‘bull **** ’ claim that cJ Ujah should not be ostracised for one of the worst doping scandals in British Olympic history. Kilty was part of the 4x100m relay quartet with Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Zharnel hughes and Ujah that had their Tokyo silver medals stripped after Ujah tested positive for drugs. Prescod, a reserve for that team, was sympathetic towards Ujah last week, saying he was ‘cool’ with the disgraced runner and that ‘he’s still a person at the end of the day — you can’t just rule someone out’. That stance has infuriated Kilty, who said: ‘reece is not in a position to forgive anybody because he hasn’t lost a medal. It’s bull **** what he said to be honest, it’s as simple as that. I’m not going to be politically correct. People say that the sport needs more honesty, but he hasn’t lost an Olympic medal, would he say that if he lost an Olympic medal?’
Kilty was part of the relay four that failed to get the baton round at the Birmingham Diamond League meet on Saturday, with adam Gemili replacing the banned Ujah. That was a poor result at an otherwise solid event for British athletes, with Dina asher-Smith winning the 100m, and further wins for the exceptional Keely hodgkinson, Laura Muir and Matt hudson-Smith. There are growing concerns that the track laid at the new £72million alexandra Stadium will lead to underwhelming times at this summer’s commonwealth Games.
