Adam announces Dens departure

- By CALUM CROWE

CHARLIE ADAM has confirmed his departure from Dundee following the club’s relegation to the Championship. The veteran midfielder spent two seasons with his hometown club and captained them to promotion last year. But he was unable to steer them to safety this time around, with the club finishing bottom of the Premiership after a disappointing campaign. Adam (right) had been criticised for his contribution in recent weeks, which included a ludicrous dive in a match against St Johnstone as well as a kamikaze backpass in a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren. But the former Scotland star insisted that he looks back on his period at Dens Park with nothing but pride and wished the club well in their bid to return to the top flight. ‘After talks with the directors about their future plans, I’ve decided to leave the club at the end of my contract this summer,’ said Adam. ‘As for my future, I’m looking forward to a new challenge, which I’ll consider over the next few weeks. ‘It was always my dream to play for my hometown club and the last two years at Dundee FC have been really special for me and my family. ‘To captain the club and lead the team to promotion is something I’ll always treasure and one of the highlights of my career.’ Dundee are continuing their search for a new manager following the departure of Mark McGhee, the veteran boss who oversaw a disastrous end to the campaign. The club have a shortlist of five candidates for the job and the first round of interviews are expected to be completed early this week.
