DARK MONEY, NETFLIX

‘HEARTBREAKING’ is the best word for this four-part BBC drama from 2019, which has just arrived on Netflix, in which young actor Isaac is sexually abused while filming in Hollywood. Isaac comes from a working-class London family, and his mum and dad are thrilled when their talented son lands the opportunity of a lifetime, but when Isaac returns, they realise something is very wrong. The boy has proof of the abuse on his phone, and the parents are desperate to take action — and we hear the awful video over and over, as they try — but when they come up against the smiling faces of Hollywood lawyers, things get much worse. Should they take the hush money — a sum that could change their lives for ever — protecting their son from a storm of publicity, or should they fight on for justice? Young Max Fincham carries the weight of the drama as Isaac very well, and has since appeared in Invasion on Apple TV+, while his parents are played by Babou Ceesay (currently starring in We Hunt Together, Thursdays on Alibi) and Jill Halfpenny (pictured with Fincham).
