ALEJANDRA AYALA has now awoken from an induced coma following her world title fight against Scotland’s Hannah Rankin in Glasgow just over a week ago. Mexican fighter Ayala was hospitalised after being defeated by Rankin via TKO at the bout at the OVO Hydro on Friday, May 13. She then required emergency surgery and was put into an induced coma, before Rankin’s camp sent out an official update last night. A statement from Rankin’s management and promoters read: ‘We are pleased to confirm that Alejandra has now been wakened from her induced coma, following successful surgery, and is recovering in hospital. ‘Everyone at Dennis Hobson Promotions, Kynoch Promotions, Fight Academy and Fightzone is so grateful to the wonderful team at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. ‘We’d also like to thank Alejandra’s parents for keeping us informed along the way, and also the BBBoC for their support. ‘Our best wishes are with this brave, brave warrior.’
