Squirrel hides from hungry hawk... in a wheely smart little spot!

-

WITH a hungry hawk ready to pounce and turn him into its dinner, this squirrel couldn’t afford to make a meal of his escape.

In the absence of a nearby burrow or tree, the rodent found a novel solution – squirrelling himself away in the wheel-arch of the nearest car.

His nemesis perched just inches away on the vehicle’s roof, the squirrel held his nerve for around half an hour before the red-tailed hawk flew off. The stand-off was spotted by university worker Allison Berdoulay, 54, in Nottingham, Pennsylvania. She said: ‘The squirrel’s so clever. He made sure the coast was clear before popping out.’

THINGS might have been a little awkward at the Oxford Union, which debated the motion, ‘This House Would Repatriate Contested Artefacts’. For the Union’s new communities officer just happens to be Liberty Osborne, 18, whose father, former Tory Chancellor George, is chair of the British Museum. He’s currently holding on tightly to the Elgin Marbles, among other contested artefacts. The motion was passed with a huge majority of 250 to just 52. Don’t tell Daddy, Liberty!
