Debs’ delight was a glorious gown
THE article about this year’s Queen Charlotte’s Ball (femail) brought back happy memories of my time as a debutante. I attended the ball in 1959 and was chosen to escort the birthday cake and curtsy beside it. I am so glad this event is still part of the social calendar, but was saddened to see today’s awful dresses with plunging necklines. we wore elegant gowns and elbow-length white gloves, which were more appropriate to the decorum of the event.
