Patriotic duty

-

WHAT a wonderful example of patriotism by Ukrainians.

If Putin wins, the whole of Western civilisation will have its back to the wall. So we all have a patriotic duty to show a united front against Russian aggression.

But patriotism seems to be lacking in certain quarters. The unions can’t wait to bring the railways to a standstill and the civil service is resisting the call to return to their Whitehall offices.

The unions convince themselves their actions are damaging the Government, but the only ones affected are ordinary people, many of whom are struggling to keep their heads above water. EDWARD KYNASTON,

IT’S wonderful that the West has contributed so heavily to the war effort in Ukraine.

However, I don’t understand why we should be asked to foot the bill for rebuilding the desolation wreaked by Putin. Why not raid the frozen bank accounts of the oligarchs and make them pay for the damage?

LESLEY MOULD, East Garston, Berks. hold the census a year ago at the same time as the rest of Britain, when Scotland would have benefited from the national publicity, has cost taxpayers an extra £9.76million on top of £138million already spent.

This is just another example of how wanting to be awkward with the Union works to Scotland’s disadvantage.
