Boohoo’s US settlement

BOOHOO has agreed a settlement in a US lawsuit that alleged it used fake promotions to mislead shoppers.

The online retailer said it had agreed a settlement in the case ‘without admission of liability’.

Boohoo said the payout was covered by its existing claims provision, which as of February stood at £17.8m. It had been feared the lawsuit could have resulted in a payout as high as £80m.

The suit, brought in California in 2020, alleged discounts being offered to US shoppers were based on inflated, or ‘fake’, original prices that customers had almost never previously been asked to pay.
