Immerse yourself in history, music and marvellous Southern hospitality Dive INTO THE DEEP SOUTH

-

ATOUR of America’s Deep South is a feast for the senses. Its complex history is carved into these states – just like the great Mississippi River, which meanders 2,350 miles from Minnesota down to Louisiana.

The sultry air echoes with Martin Luther King’s famous speeches and the harmonies and beats of the blues.

From the birth of rock ’n’ roll with Chuck Berry to the dulcet tones of Dolly Parton and the legendary New Orleans jazz scene, the South has always moved to its own rhythm.

There is spice-spiked cuisine to savour and charming Southern hospitality, sweeping landscapes and delightful towns. It’s why Titan Travel has worked to craft itineraries that make the most of every moment.

With group tours led by expert managers and local guides, there’s a chance to really immerse yourself in the diverse stories that have woven together today’s Deep South and share unforgettable experiences with like-minded travellers.

SOUTHERN SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

A harmony of experiences that combines rich history with the unique musical genres born in this special region, the 14-day Southern Sights and Sounds trip is a whirlwind tour of the best of the South.

After a day of Civil Rights and Martin Luther King history in Atlanta, it’s all aboard Chattanooga’s Incline Railway as it climbs Lookout Mountain for spectacular views.

In Nashville, change into your denim for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B, where music icons such as Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and David Bowie immortalised their sounds. Then it’s an evening at the Grand Ole Opry, the storied country music hall that hasn’t missed a single show since 1925.

Up next in Memphis, it’s time for blues on Beale Street and rock ’n’ roll at Graceland. You’ll also visit the King’s childhood home, where Elvis’s life is best explored through memorabilia, private aeroplanes and grand halls of his later years.

A crowd favourite, it’s time for the rhythm to pick up in New Orleans. As you stroll past voodoo shops, stop for coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde or admire the vibrant lights of Bourbon Street – you’ll never be far from music in the home of jazz. It’s the perfect way to finish a Titan Travel tour that delights all the senses.

JOURNEY ON THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI

In the words of Mark Twain, ‘the Mississippi is as reposeful as a dreamland’, and on this 16-day tour, you’ll be able to experience its peaceful beauty for yourself from the decks of the American Queen. She’s the largest steamboat ever built, and a member of the Historic Hotels of America.

Walk the line in Nashville and do the jailhouse rock in Graceland, Memphis, before boarding the grand vessel for an incredible Mississippi experience.

Sailing down Ol’ Man River, the six-level steamboat passes sleepy riverside towns and exciting waterfront cities. In Vicksburg, history buffs will be fascinated by the Old Courthouse Museum, which holds pre-Columbian artefacts and relics of the Civil War. At Biedenharn, the Coca-Cola Museum offers a splash of energy for those balmy days.

In Natchez, charm is all around as you visit the grand homes of the pre-Civil War period and restored mansions of gleaming white, and in the town of St Francisville you can tour the sweeping gardens of the Rosedown Plantation.

In Baton Rouge, you’ll get spectacular views of the river from the 27th floor of the Louisiana State Capitol, and after visiting the historic Nottoway Plantation House, it’s time to end your trip with three days of music and Cajun cuisine in vibrant New Orleans.

On both of these exciting itineraries, comfortable hotels or boat cabins are provided throughout, and all excursions are included at no extra cost, as well as some meals depending on your accommodation that night. With the expertise of local guides and Titan Travel’s dedication to detail, you’ll discover the very best of the Deep South.
