WARRIORS BOSS CAN’T GO ON AFTER DUBLIN DEBACLE

- By Rob Robertson

GLASGOW WARRIORS head coach Danny Wilson is a decent man but doesn’t deserve to hold on to his job after the debacle against Leinster. It wasn’t the defeat but the manner of it that suggests he may have lost the dressing room. There was a lack of pride in the jersey from the players who were part of one of the worst displays ever by a Glasgow side. Their 76-14 rout in Dublin brought nothing but shame. Seven points ahead after four minutes, Glasgow threw in the towel after that. The lack of effort, especially near the end, was a sad sight. Surely only the tight-fisted bean counters at the SRU — and any intervention from Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend — can save Wilson from the sack. He has a year left on his current deal and would be in line for compensation if shown the door. SRU chief executive Mark Dodson may decide to keep him on until his contract comes to an end to save a few bob. Townsend won’t want any changes in the Glasgow coaching set-up in what will be the final

season ahead of the 2023 World Cup. He will want the status quo to remain to avoid any disruption for his Scotstounbased players. Better the devil you know could be the mantra from the Scotland head coach. The Warriors fans want to see the back of Wilson, and with justification. Remember, it was only three years ago Leinster narrowly beat them 18-15 at Celtic Park in front of a crowd of 47,128 in the Pro14 play-off final. The club has gone backwards at a rate of knots since then and the sell-out signs at Scotstoun are sadly a thing of the past with fans increasingly failing to show up. Dodson will make the final call on the future of Wilson but he is a stubborn man and may ignore the wishes of the fans.
