Call to stub out supermarket tobacco
THE report’s recommendations include:
■Tobacco should not be sold in supermarkets or online south of the Border.
■Smokers should be encouraged to quit every time they see a doctor.
■Individual cigarettes should have health warnings printed on them and their colour potentially changed to make them look less appealing.
■Smoking may be banned outside cafes, restaurants and pubs in England.
■It should also be banished ‘in all outdoor areas where children are present’ – for example, beaches.
■Duty-free cigarette sales should end.
■Up to 70 per cent of new council tenancy agreements should prevent people smoking in their homes.
