£2m for first Bard folio

-

AN original copy of William Shakespeare’s First Folio worth up to £2million is set to go under the hammer.

Printed almost 400 years ago, it is one of fewer than 20 left in private hands.

It’s thought it may be the only copy that can be traced back to Scotland, having been acquired by a family called Gordon in the early 17th century.

Curated by the Bard’s trusted colleagues John Heminges and Henry Condell, it comprises 36 plays, half of which had never before been printed.

The copy will go up for auction in New York on July 21 and is estimated to fetch between £1.1million and £2million.
