I didn’t get my girl Obi-Wan role (says Obi-Wan Ewan!)

- Daily Mail Reporter

NOT only does her father play the titular role in the hugely popular series, but he is an executive producer on it too.

So you might be forgiven for assuming Ewan McGregor played a part in landing his daughter’s role in the Disney+ show Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In fact, other young actors without such august connections might even scoff at any other suggestion as they struggle to break into the industry.

However, the Hollywood star claims he did not pull any strings to secure 20-year-old Esther’s role in the series.

Recounting the scenario on The Late Late Show With James Corden, McGregor said: ‘I’m sure everybody thinks she got the job because of me, but she didn’t. She auditioned for the role. Deb, the director said to me, “I found this great girl but she turns out to be your daughter. Are you happy with that?”. I said that would be amazing.’

Esther plays Tetha Grig, a spice dealer who has a brief encounter with Jedi master Kenobi in alien city Daiyu.

McGregor said: ‘She was brilliant. You don’t know with your kids until that moment when I was acting with her and it felt really normal and natural.’

The Scot has also starred in a movie with his 26-year-old daughter Clara. He told Corden: ‘She wrote this film where we play father and daughter. It was the most extraordinary situation to be in. It was very personal and beautiful.’
