Wife’s scissors ‘snip’ threat to Tory MP in porn shame

- Harriet Line Chief Political Correspondent

A ToRY who quit as an MP after being caught watching porn in Parliament has said his wife chases him with scissors threatening to ‘snip off’ his genitals.

Neil Parish resigned as MP for Tiverton and Honiton in Devon in May after twice accessing adult material in the Commons – he claimed the first time was accidental while he was looking at tractors online. In an interview with ITV’s Lorraine yesterday, he praised his wife of 40 years, Sue, for her support after the reports emerged.

He said: ‘[My wife] knows I’m no angel, she chases me around the kitchen with scissors saying “snipper snap”, knowing full well what part of my anatomy she is after. She knows what I’m like.’

Mrs Parish, who worked as his secretary, has stood by him. Mr Parish said he took her advice when he decided to resign.

‘our children, our son and our daughter, both gave very sound advice. And in the end do you twist and turn, do you tell lots of fibs, or go? And I decided to go,’ he said.

Speaking after the porn scandal broke,

Mrs Parish said: ‘If you were mad with every man who looked at pornography, you would not have many wives in the world.’

Mr Parish told Lorraine he should have quit sooner. ‘I went into a sort of denial… I thought perhaps if I pretend it didn’t happen, it hasn’t happened,’ he said.

His resignation triggered a by-election that was won by the Lib Dems, overturning a Tory majority of more than 24,000.
