HISTORY TOUR Walking Wartime Britain, 7pm, Ch5

-

IF YOU thought you knew everything about the Second World War, think again as this fascinating new series is full of surprises. Over six walks, the former Royal Marine Arthur Williams will be travelling across Britain to discover the people and places that changed the course of the fight against the Nazis. From the women who became superspies to the teens forced down the mines and the inventors who dreamt up wonder weapons, these are the characters you might not find in the history books, but who played a vital role in victory. Arthur begins in Liverpool, Britain’s most important wartime port — and, after London, Britain’s most bombed city. There, he visits Derby Square and the famous ‘Bombed Out Church’ (pictured) to discover how the city was flattened during the deadly May Blitz of 1941.
