Toffees and AC Milan in line for Sydney Super Cup
EVERTON and AC Milan have emerged as potential replacements for Rangers in the controversial Sydney Super Cup. The Ibrox club pulled out of a historic overseas clash with arch rivals Celtic in November following a ferocious fan backlash. And reports Down Under claim Frank Lampard’s Everton are in talks with organisers over taking part in the four-team tournament. Sportsmail understands Serie A giants AC Milan have also held discussions after Rangers ripped up an agreement to play Celtic at the 83,000-seat Accor Stadium. Both Glasgow clubs were scheduled to join Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in an event marketed as a homecoming tour for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou. And, despite standing in line to earn £2million, Rangers pulled out, insisting organisers failed to ‘fulfil their commitments’ to the club. A statement on the website for the Sydney Super Cup on Sunday night prompted speculation over which team will take Rangers’ place, reading: ‘History will be made in Sydney this November in the newly created Sydney Super Cup. ‘Updated details to be announced soon!’
