Get ready to bask in 27C heatwave

- By John Paul Breslin

SCOTS could be in for a heatwave as a wave of warm air from the south looks set to raise temperatures as high as 27C.

Conditions are set to gradually improve over the next few days, starting from today – with the hottest days expected on Sunday and Monday.

And while things may cool off slightly on Tuesday, there is a chance an area of high pressure holds off any cold fronts – meaning there could be a continued hot spell through most of next week.

It is expected there will be a high of 23C today and 22C tomorrow while the mercury will rise to 26C on Sunday and peak at 27C on Monday. Winds will ease tomorrow to bring a fine day with sunny spells in the afternoon. Alex Burkill, senior meteorologist at the Met Office said: ‘There’s a relatively weak front coming on Tuesday. It’s more the cloud it could bring that’s an issue rather than rain.

‘We’ve had high pressure building from the south west which is bringing the warmer weather. It’s expected to drift away on Tuesday. However, if it lingers those cold fronts won’t come in and the fine weather could last a lot longer.’
