Boy aged 2 dies with his grandparents in A9 crash
A COUPLE who were killed in a threevehicle crash in the Highlands along with their toddler grandson have been named.
David McPherson, 68, his wife Elza, 64, and the two-year-old boy were fatally injured in the accident on the A9 on Tuesday.
Mr McPherson, who was driving a red Ford Fiesta, was pronounced dead at the scene at the Slochd Summit near Carrbridge, Inverness-shire.
His wife and their grandson, whose name has not been released, were both taken to hospital but died a short time later.
A 67-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman who were in a black Mercedes C Class that was also involved in the crash were injured.
They were taken to hospital, where they were said to be in a stable condition.
A white Mercedes Sprinter van was also involved in the collision, with the male driver uninjured.
The road was closed for nine hours while crash scene investigators conducted inquiries into the circumstances of the accident.
Neighbours of the tragic couple, from Inverness, yesterday said that their ‘hearts were breaking’ after their names were released by police. One said: ‘They were very nice people, very helpful. You could count on them, if you needed something.’
Sergeant Neil MacDonald of the road policing unit appealed for information.
He added: ‘In particular, I would ask anyone with dashcam devices to check their footage as it could hold images which could prove to be significant in our inquiries.’
