Expat Scots snubbed
YOUR correspondent Claire Maplethorpe (Letters) is justly resentful that as a Scottish expat she will be unable to vote in the proposed independence referendum.
I wonder if she is aware that in the EU Nicola Sturgeon so admires, expats can vote in elections and referendums in their home countries.
In the 2014 Scottish referendum, Corby in Northamptonshire, which has a sizeable Scottish community, held a dummy referendum in which the vote was 80 per cent in favour of staying in the Union. That might explain Miss Sturgeon’s reluctance to include expat Scots.
