All Scots will pay price of SNP gas boilers ‘diktat’

SCOTLAND has an insignificant 0.15 per cent of global emissions yet the Scottish Government will ban gas boilers in all new homes, offices and new builds by April 2024 (Mail). From 2030 existing homes will not be able to replace their existing gas boiler but be forced to install far more expensive heat pumps, solar energy or electricity. According to the Energy Saving Trust ground source pumps cost between £24,000 and £49,000. Air source pumps will cost between £7,000 and £13,000 but larger radiators may be required. Recently my replacement gas boiler cost £3,000. Modern gas boilers can last for anywhere between 10 to 15 years but many are still efficient after 20 years. Tell the Scottish Government what to do with their climate diktats by buying a replacement gas boiler before 2030.

CLARK CROSS, Linlithgow, West Lothian. DOES the SNP really care about ordinary Scots? Along with the influence of its Green partners, the SNP seems determined to make Scotland carbon zero yet leave the actual population with massive bills, headaches and real problems. This move to ban new gas central heating in a country that suffers from pretty long cold winters is just a shocking case of putting politics before people. We all want to minimise the effects of climate change but simply banning heating systems or older fossil fuel cars is a knee jerk reaction.

GERALD EDWARDS, Glasgow. I PREDICTED when Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater wriggled their way into government that chaos would ensue. Although it is right to combat climate change, acting in haste upon the rantings of people like Harvie will cost fortunes and throw people into long term debt with ill thought out plans for expensive, inefficient heat pumps. Lorna Slater has already cost the taxpayer with her unworkable bottle return plan and along with her ‘Greens’ partner, will only wreak more havoc on Scotland.
