MEGGINSON GIVES COVE IDEAL START

-

TWO-GOAL Mitch Megginson was the hero for Cove Rangers as they began life in the Championship with a rousing 2-0 home victory over Raith Rovers. The ex-Aberdeen striker opened the scoring after just eight minutes for last season’s League One winners before doubling their advantage in the 50th minute. Cove boss Jim McIntyre said: ‘He’s got a striker’s natural instinct and it’s no surprise to see him get us off to such a positive start.’ Newly-promoted Queen’s Park also got their campaign up and running with a 1-1 draw at Inverness, Jake Davidson scoring after 13 minutes with Billy Mckay equalising before the break. New Hamilton boss John Rankin got a red card after protesting ref Mike Roncone was wrong to send off Shaun Want for a challenge which saw visitors Morton equalise from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw. Andy Ryan gave Accies the lead before Grant Gillespie’s spot-kick. Ayr and Arbroath fought out a 0-0 draw at Somerset Park.
