FROM I, Tonya to The West Wing, Allison Janney has specialised in playing no-nonsense women. They have usually handled their disagreements verbally rather than physically, though. That all changes with Lou. Janney is magnificent as a loner roped into action when a little girl is kidnapped.

Together with the girl’s mum (Jurnee Smollett), she sets off into the woods and soon brings some very special skills from her dark past into play. With echoes of Taken, this gritty actioner allows Janney to unleash an unsuspected inner action woman.
