Cannibalised Corsa crimewave!

- By Daisy Graham-Brown

VAUXHALL Corsa owners across Scotland have found their cars torn apart in a bizarre crimewave.

Thieves have targeted the front ends of the vehicles and stolen bumpers and bonnets, most likely to sell for parts.

Jody Armstrong, 33, and Greig Allan, 34, discovered their Corsa severely damaged outside their home in Cowdenbeath, Fife, on Wednesday morning.

The couple both use the car for work and were devastated to find that its window had been smashed and the entire front taken.

Miss Armstrong, a support worker for disabled children, said: ‘We need our car for getting to and from work and we have two toddlers that rely on the car.’ She added: ‘Unfortunately, no neighbours heard anything and had no camera footage for that area. We will now be putting up a camera for security and are waiting to hear back if our car can be fixed.’ Dylan Laidlaw, 18, of Polbeth, West Lothian, said he found his Corsa ‘smashed up’ on Sunday morning after leaving it at Livingston South station overnight. He told Edinburgh Live: ‘I was out for a few drinks in Edinburgh and came back to my car the next morning and saw it like that.’

It is thought whoever is behind the crimes – dubbed the ‘Corsa Cartel’ on social media – targets the vehicles for parts to sell.

Police in Fife confirmed cars have been damaged in Cowdenbeath and Crossgates, while officers in West Lothian are appealing for information following seven reports of the crime in Broxburn, Bathgate, Livingston and Winchburgh.

Detective Inspector John Murphy said: ‘We are carrying out extensive inquiries into this spate of incidents and whether it’s a trend or being carried out by a single individual or group.

‘We would ask anyone with information, or if you see any anyone trying to sell Corsa parts online or in person, to please call police on 101, quoting incident 0523 of September 16, 2022.’
