Smith’s consistency challenge for Glasgow

- By ROB ROBERTSON

GLASGOW WARRIORS head coach Franco Smith has challenged his team to show some consistency by winning on the road against the Ospreys this afternoon. The South African saw his side play poorly in their opening league match against Benetton that they lost 33-11 in Treviso. They bounced back in style the following week with an emphatic 52-24 win over Cardiff at Scotstoun. ‘The players set the standard now the week before with the win over Cardiff,’ said Smith. ‘It’s going to be important to concentrate and focus on our processes against Ospreys and how we’re going to apply them rather than think about where we are playing. ‘I think the emphasis from now is on what we do, how we can get better. That process needs to be done in the right manner, so we must not be affected by who the game is against and where it’s taking place and we have to be consistent in our approach. ‘Our systems clicked against Cardiff and we won playing our brand of rugby. We want to make another step forward.’ Smith revealed that scrum-half George Horne, who was man of the match in the win over Cardiff, did not travel with the squad to Swansea as he has a back problem. Ali Price takes his place at nine and takes over the captaincy from winger Kyle Steyn, who is injured. ‘George lifted something in the gym and he blocked his back and couldn’t train full out since then,’ said Smith. ‘On top of that, we obviously want to see Sean Kennedy at nine so it’s a good time to introduce him to the bench. ‘That way George can recover properly and be fully fit next week.’
