VIDEO NASTIES LIFT LEIPZIG’S LEVEL

- By MARK WALKER

RB LEIPZIG defender Marcel Halstenberg reckons they are back on track to face Celtic in their Champions League showdown this week after sitting through a series of video nasties. The Hoops travel to Germany to play Marco Rose’s side, who thumped Bundesliga bottom dogs Bochum in a 4-0 win at the weekend, with former Chelsea star Timo Werner scoring a brace. But the German Cup winners had been largely disappointing this season and have lost both of their Group F games against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid. And German international leftback Halstenberg has credited their turnaround on Rose ordering them to watch their recent displays. He said: ‘We worked on tactics all week and spent a long time looking at footage of where we had been going wrong. ‘I made a big effort to link up with Timo. We have played together before on the left wing and we work well together. ‘We showed that we can score goals with energy, intensity and pressing. Marco Rose wants to bring the team closer together so that everyone stands up for everyone and win our individual battles. ‘The difference from recently was that everyone demanded the ball. It was a very good performance. We won as a team and we need to continue this against Celtic.’ And Leipzig’s Austrian international midfielder, Xaver Schlager, admitted they have received a huge injection of confidence before they play Ange Postecoglou’s side. He said: ‘The manner of the win was very good and that gives us a lot of confidence for the next game against Celtic. ‘But we must continue like this. If we get our performance right on the pitch, whoever we are playing will have a very difficult time against us.’
