FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND

- CALUM McCLURKIN

KENT CAN KICK ON FROM GORGIE SHOW

RYAN KENT hasn’t found his best form this season but his Tynecastle performance is one the ex-Liverpool winger can build on when he faces his old club tomorrow. Kent showed his creative and goalscoring ability in Rangers’ 4-0 win at Hearts. His pinpoint cross teed up Antonio Colak for the opener and Kent rounded off the scoring with a precise finish. It could spark him into life for the rest of the season.

ABADA IN BETTER FORM THAN MAEDA

DAIZEN MAEDA’S work-rate means he’s usually a starter for Celtic, but Liel Abada carries much more of a threat. The Israeli has scored six Premiership goals in eight appearances, while Maeda — who struggled in the 2-1 win over Motherwell — has failed to score in eight top-flight games this term. His pressing is relentless but Abada is a better bet when you need goals.

ROBINSON’S SAINTS UP FOR THE FIGHT

NOT many teams can go a man down and still take three points against a tough Livingston side. St Mirren ground out a 2-1 win over Livi as Stephen Robinson (right) saw his side climb to third in the Premership. Beating Celtic before the international break has given Saints tons of belief.

UNITED SUFFER TORMENT YET AGAIN

THERE’S been no home comfort for Dundee United this season. Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone means they have lost all four of their Premiership games at Tannadice, scoring once and shipping 15 goals in the process. They remain winless and are bottom of the table. With United’s next two games at home, picking up points will be imperative to arrest an alarming slide.

PLENTY OF GOALS FLOWING AT FIRHILL

PARTICK THISTLE have found the net in each of their eight Championship games this season and the table-toppers have scored more than two goals in seven of them. Ian McCall’s men hammered Morton 5-1 on Saturday, with a different scorer for every goal. The Jags have netted 14 times from five home games at Firhill and the early pacesetters look like a difficult team to stop when in the attacking groove.
