THE WHITE LOTUS, 9PM, SKY ATLANTIC & NOW TV

THE first series was a delicious peek at the hell that lay under the surface at the five-star White Lotus resort in Hawaii. The kooky murder mystery, which centred on spoilt rich American guests and the staff serving them, was a hit that earned 20 Emmy nominations, and now there is an equally compelling sequel. This time it’s set in a Sicilian resort, with an almost entirely new cast, and focuses on familiar themes of sex and betrayal. ‘The mythology of Sicily, at least from the point of view of Americans, is the sexual politics you associate with opera, the Mafia and Italian romance,’ says Mike White, who created the show in lockdown because TV chiefs needed a drama that could be filmed in one location. ‘I felt like this series should have an operatic feel.’ As with the first series, the story starts with a dead body, and then we’re taken back a week to see a group of guests arriving. Fans will be thrilled to see the return of poor little rich girl Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge, pictured) from series one.
