Ugly side of Costa reappears

- By KATHRYN BATTE at Gtech Community Stadium

THERE are two sides to Diego Costa. He is the clinical striker that scored 52 goals in 89 Premier League games for Chelsea and, for 90 minutes against Brentford, there were promising signs that he could become the goalscorer Wolves desperately need. But then the other side of Costa came out. In the 97th minute he head-butted Brentford defender Ben Mee. Referee Bobby Madley sent the forward off after reviewing the footage on the VAR monitor. It was senseless, but perhaps not surprising. Costa had a reputation for lashing out during his time at Chelsea, though the absence of VAR meant he was never sent off. ‘Diego has apologised for it,’ said Wolves’ caretaker boss Steve Davis. ‘We will have procedures in place to discipline him, but when emotions are high it’s difficult to discuss those things.’ A Ruben Neves equaliser had cancelled out Mee’s superb volley early in the second half but Wolves are still languishing one point off the foot of the table.
