WINGER TARGETING CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RETURN
just two points from a possible 15, however, winger Forrest regards the club’s first Champions League campaign in five years as a positive experience. Frustrated by a failure to take chances at key moments, the 31-year-old claims Celtic can’t wait to have another crack at Europe’s elite and will only get better. ‘I think that the performances in these games have definitely shown that,’ said Forrest. ‘The club was desperate to be back here and all of the boys will have enjoyed this campaign — and maybe feel they are more eager to get back here again to put some results right. ‘I think it’s definitely been positive, even though we haven’t managed to win a game. The way the manager has been, he wants everybody to be positive, to be attacking, and he believes this is where we should be. You can hear the fans are buzzing off that, and the players have a good feeling about it as well.’ Without a home victory in the Champions League since a 2-1 win over Ajax in 2013/14, Celtic pushed Real Madrid hard before sliding to a 3-0 defeat in the final half-hour on matchday one. Despite disappointing results, however, Forrest believes every game has offered grounds for hope. ‘We’ve played really well in every game in the Champions League this year,’ he said. ‘We went 1-0 up (against Shakhtar) and were disappointed to draw again, but I think we can take a lot of positives from our performance, as we have throughout this campaign. I think the next time we get into the Champions League — and, hopefully, that is soon — we can get the same performances and get results as well.’
