INSTEAD of criticisin­g the Qataris for maintainin­g tight control over the availabili­ty of alcoholic drinks during the World Cup, surely we ought to be congratula­ting them.

The less alcohol available, the less drunken and loutish behaviour will occur. Why should Doha be expected to court trouble in what is normally an alcohol-free society?

FOOTBALL fans who want the whole world, including Qatar, to live as we do are disrespect­ful of other cultures or naive. Perhaps they have never been taught ‘when in Rome, do as Rome does’.
