Langer hits out at Aussie ‘cowards’
FORMER Australia coach Justin Langer says some of his former players were cowards for making anonymous complaints about him in the media. Langer resigned in February having been offered a six-month contract extension after winning the T20 World Cup and beating England 4-0 in the Ashes, and reports in Australia have suggested players were unhappy with his leadership style. Langer, 52, told the BackChat podcast: ‘Everyone was being nice to my face. But I was reading this stuff and I could not believe half of it was making the papers. A lot of journalists use the word “source”. I would say, change that word to “coward”.’ Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley responded by saying he wanted to ‘correct inaccuracies’ in Langer’s account and that he was disappointed by his comments. Australia are now coached by Andrew McDonald and start a two-Test series against West Indies on November 30 in Perth.
