PLAYER RATINGS

- By MARK WILSON and JOHN McGARRY at Ibrox

RANGERS (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 6.4

ALLAN McGREGOR 6 Left utterly exposed in the fifth minute, he didn’t have to reprise any previous Old Firm heroics before being beaten again.

JAMES TAVERNIER 6 Failure to clear was costly at the opener, but improved after a sticky opening half hour and was flawless converting the penalty.

CONNOR GOLDSON 6 Another embroiled in the mess early on. Largely solid thereafter, though escaped conceding a handball penalty in the second half.

BEN DAVIES 7 Some sharp passing into midfield helped settle Rangers and the centreback can be content with his first Old Firm start.

BORNA BARISIC 6 Found it tricky in the first half as Johnston overlapped to support Forrest. Crosses were a mixed bag, which didn’t aid his side at times. JOHN LUNDSTRAM 6.5 Has been taking injections to play in recent weeks. Stepped up his performance after the interval before making way for Jack. GLEN KAMARA 6 Too safe and too slow in his passing in opening half hour, the Finland midfielder was another who found more in his game during second half.

MALIK TILLMAN 6 An attacking pick in midfield, the Bayern Munich loanee could have made it 3-1 but for a brilliant Carter-Vickers block. Replaced by Sands. FASHION SAKALA 8 His energy and pace were central to Rangers turning the tide, with the Zambian setting up Kent’s leveller and winning the penalty. RYAN KENT 7 Saw a low first-half strike tipped on to the post by Hart before producing a superb, curling equaliser. A decent derby display.

ALFREDO MORELOS Woeful blind pass gifted Maeda possession for his opener. Missed two headed chances but also helped his side progress up the pitch. 6

SUBSTITUTES Jack (Lundstram 71), Wright (Morelos 80), Sands (Tillman 85). Not used: McLaughlin, Colak, Devine, Wright, Roofe, Arfield, King.

MICHAEL BEALE 7 His side responded well after a difficult start. Left frustrated by a second preventable concession. CELTIC (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 6.3

JOE HART 6.5 Most relieved man in Ibrox to tip Kent’s shot on to the post after Morelos closed down his kick. Blameless as game turned on its head.

ALISTAIR JOHNSTON 7 Canadian was granted his wish of a debut in the derby and started well but gave Kent too much space before he curled beyond Hart.

CARL STARFELT 6 Out-jumped twice by Morelos late in first half and got away with it. Not so when his trailing leg caught Sakala early in the second.

C CARTER-VICKERS 7 Read almost every Rangers pass in behind him in first period. But became unsettled by the direct runs of Sakala and Tillman.

GREG TAYLOR 3 Had suffered a niggle at Easter Road so was always a gamble. Kept Sakala at bay but not so the hamstring injury that saw him depart.

CALLUM McGREGOR 7 Set the tone as Celtic raced into an early lead but couldn’t get foot on the ball after restart. Kept his cool to play his side back into it.

REO HATATE 6.5 Always available and never flustered in first half. But overplayed when he didn’t have to and turned the ball over in lead-up to penalty.

MATT O’RILEY 6.5 Prodded, probed and danced his way out of trouble as Celtic deservedly took a half-time lead. Faded after the restart. JAMES FORREST 5 Veteran was a surprise inclusion. Was well supplied by Johnston but didn’t make the most of it. No surprise he made way for Abada. KYOGO FURUHASHI 7 Just when you thought his barren run in this fixture would continue, the Japanese forward popped up with a late equaliser.

DAIZEN MAEDA 8 Flew out of the blocks to capitalise on Morelos’ slack pass. Made a tricky finish look easy. Got the better of Tavernier over the piece.

SUBSTITUTES Juranovic (Taylor 20), Abada (Forrest 61), Mooy (O’Riley 61), Giakoumakis (Hatate 77), Jota (Maeda 77). Not used: Bain, Kobayashi, Bernabei, Abildgaard.

ANGE POSTECOGLOU 7 Would have taken a draw beforehand. Celtic were not at their best but you can’t question their character.
