Osaka to miss remainder of the season after revealing pregnancy

NAOMI OSAKA has revealed she is pregnant and will therefore miss the rest of the 2023 season. The four-time Grand Slam champion last week pulled out of this month’s Australian Open with no reason given — but, yesterday, posted a picture of a baby scan on Instagram. ‘Can’t wait to get back on the court but here’s a little life update for 2023,’ read Osaka’s caption. ‘I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone: “That’s my mom”.’ Meanwhile, fans at next week’s Australian Open have been warned they will be ejected if they excessivel­y boo nine-times champion Novak Djokovic. Tournament chief Craig Tiley said: ‘If they disrupt the enjoyment of anyone else — boom, they are out. ‘We don’t want them on site. They can stay away or we will kick them out.’

• DAVY Russell is to come out of retirement to fill the void in the riding plans of trainer Gordon Elliott after Jack Kennedy broke his leg for the fifth time on Sunday. Russell, 43, a regular ally of Elliott, announced he was quitting the saddle on December 18, but will return at Fairyhouse on Saturday to ‘help the team through a difficult few weeks’.

• Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin has been discharged from hospital as his recovery continues after suffering a cardiac arrest in an Nfl game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 24-year-old safety had been undergoing evaluation after his heart stopped nine minutes into the match at Paycor Stadium on January 2 after a collision.
