Clare’s a perfect match for Wimbledon
sUe BaRKeR left big shoes to fill as the presenter of the BBC’s coverage of wimbledon. she was a world-class player in the same era as John mcenroe and martina Navratilova, which made their courtside chats all the more enjoyable. The BBC’s leading tennis commentator andrew Castle, also a former British No 1, would have been a good choice to take over. But with her all-round presenting experience, there was only ever going to be one person for the job: Clare Balding. she has hosted the wimbledon daily highlights show for years, is unflappable, rarely says ‘umm’ and has a great sense of humour.
