Doak will be monitored after horror head knock

LIVERPOOL have moved to alleviate concerns over Ben Doak after the Scotland youngster was involving in a sickening clash of heads yesterday. The former Celtic attacker required urgent medical attention during the Anfield club’s Under-19s game with Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Youth League. After colliding with an opponent while leaping for a header in the sixth minute, the 17-year-old (pictured) clutched his head in pain before collapsing to the turf. Doak was able to stand up but was replaced in the eighth minute of a match Liverpool lost 1-0 to be eliminated from the competition. Thankfully, the Scotland Under21 star was said to be fine but will remain under the close supervision of club medics. ‘Ben is okay,’ said Liverpool Under-21 head coach Barry Lewtas. ‘He obviously couldn’t continue but our medical staff got to him quickly. He was on the pitch at the end with the lads and we will keep him closely monitored.’ Doak moved to Anfield from Celtic last summer for a compensation fee of £600,000. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has handed the forward five senior appearances. Doak made his Reds debut against Derby County in the Carabao Cup and featured in the Premier League for the first time in a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The youngster was not named in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad yesterday for the Euro 2024 qualifying double header against Cyprus and Spain at Hampden. Depending on his condition, he will join up with the Under-21 squad to face Sweden and Wales in Murcia later this month.
