Arsenal take a back seat… and now Chips isn’t salty

- MARCUS TOWNEND

FORMER Arsenal chairman sir Chips Keswick missed his first Festival winner in 2014 because he was watching his team play in Europe, but he was present yesterday as You Wear it Well gave him a second victory at the meeting in the Jack de Bromhead Mares Novices’ hurdle. Keswick, who stood down in 2020 after seven years as Arsenal chairman, won the Festival Novices’ handicap Chase in 2014 with Present View, trained by Jamie snowden like You Wear it Well. sir Chips said: ‘it is great to be here this time. i had to watch Arsenal against Bayern and they beat us 3-1 (on aggregate). ‘i have a few horses but You Wear it Well is the nicest. i hope Arsenal win the league this year and they might just get there. if Arsenal win the league after this winner at the Festival, that might just be an overflowing cup! ‘i retired when i was 80 from the board. i think when you leave, you leave. You shouldn’t hang around, but rest assured i watch Arsenal every time on the television.’
