Dundee seal extra tickets for potential title decider

DUNDEE have succeeded in having their ticket allocation increased for next week’s potential Championship title shootout away to Queen’s Park following intervention from the SPFL. The Dens Park side currently lead the Spiders by a point with two games each to play, meaning there is a good chance next Friday’s showdown at Ochilview — Queen’s Park’s temporary home — will decide which team finishes top and gains automatic promotion to the Premiership. Dundee were left disappointed earlier this week when they were offered just 400 tickets and saw their subsequent pleas to have their allocation increased rejected by the hosts despite Queen’s Park rarely coming close to filling a ground that has a capacity of more than 3,700. On Wednesday, the Tayside club released a statement saying that they had ‘formally asked the SPFL board to urgently intervene’. This move paid off as the Dark Blues revealed yesterday that the Spiders have now been told to make at least 1,000 briefs available for visiting supporters. ‘Dundee FC is very pleased to announce that, following representations made by the Club, the SPFL Board has determined that Queen’s Park FC is required to at least double our original ticket allocation for next Friday’s fixture at Ochilview to a minimum of 1,000,’ read a statement. ‘Whilst this is still considerably less than the expected level of demand, the club would like to sincerely thank both the SPFL Board and Police Scotland for their prompt and careful consideration of our arguments in the interests of public safety and on behalf of our loyal supporters.’ Dundee face Cove Rangers in their final home match of the season tonight.
