Jamieson back in the hunt after a 65

-

SCOTT JAMIeSOn surged into contention for a second DP World Tour title after a second-round 65 at the Korea Championship in Incheon. Jamieson carded nine birdies and a double bogey at Jack nicklaus Golf Club, the joint-lowest score of the day. That vaulted the 39-year-old Scot, who shot an opening-round 73, 63 places up the leaderboard into a six-way tie for fifth on six under, two behind joint leaders Yannik Paul and Park Sanghyun. Antoine Rozner, who held a four-shot overnight lead after a superb opening 63, could only add a second round of 74 to lie a shot off the pace alongside fellow Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera, who matched Jamieson’s 65. ‘Thursday seemed a bit of a struggle. I didn’t take chances when I was able to, but today was a different story,’ said Jamieson, whose previous DP World Tour title came in South Africa in 2012. ‘Today, I was better off the tee and hit a lot of good shots. The rest of the field was packed and you know that a good round at any point now will give you a big jump.’ Rozner was happy to still be in contention after recovering from two early bogeys with birdies on the fifth and seventh, but ran up a triple-bogey seven on the ninth.

JEN DODDS and Bruce Mouat’s hopes of sealing a third successive World Mixed Doubles curling title for Scotland were ended by the USA. The 2021 champions, who were defending the title won by Eve Muirhead and Bobby Lammie last year, suffered an 8-6 loss in the first game of the knockout stage in South Korea. The Scots, who finished third in their section, were always up against it after American pair Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin went two up at the opening end. The US went on to reach today’s final, where they face Japan. ‘We just started slowly and that’s what killed us,’ said Mouat. ‘We mounted a bit of a comeback but it just wasn’t enough, so we’re gutted with our overall performance. ‘We’re happy where we are generally, but I just think there’s another step we can go up to be world leading at this point. ‘We must work on a few things to make sure we get there next year.’
