Mason: Give Kane credit he deserves

- By JOHN DEREK

RYAN MASON believes it could take another 10 years before Tottenham striker Harry Kane is truly appreciated. While Spurs have endured a tumultuous campaign and currently have no permanent manager nor managing director of football, it has been another impressive season for their talisman. Kane became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in February, broke the England scoring record a month later and starred in Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United. The Tottenham vice-captain will look to add to his 24 Premier League strikes tomorrow at Anfield against Liverpool, but continues to be mocked over his lack of silverware. Mason said: ‘This country probably doesn’t appreciate how good he is as a footballer. ‘He’s incredible, this country should appreciate we’ve got a real special talent. ‘Maybe in 10 years we’ll look back and we’ll say what a great player Harry really was and that we probably should have celebrated him more while we were enjoying watching him play football. ‘I’ve always been quite consistent on that. I played with him, I saw it and I felt what kind of player he was. ‘At the same time even as a fan of football, it’s hard not to love and appreciate the type of player that he is. ‘It probably doesn’t get spoken about enough but off the pitch we’re talking about someone who has acted in the right way for over a decade. ‘There have been no problems, no negativity, no scandals and that says a lot for me. I know Harry very well and I know his family very well as well. He’s an example of what I’d want any young kid to look up to.’
