FIVE THINGS

WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND

- CALUM McCLURKIN

FURUHASHI FINISHES WITH A FLOURISH

ONLY a couple more goals were required for a fresh Kyogo Furuhashi to finish the season as the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership. The striker delivered yet again. He scored twice to pave the way for a 5-0 victory over Aberdeen. Furuhashi has been so clinical and key to breaking the deadlock in games — five of his last seven strikes have been the first goal for Celtic.

FITNESS KEY TO COLAK’S IBROX FUTURE

MICHAEL Beale is plotting a major rebuild at Rangers and preseason will be crucial for Antonio Colak to stay in the manager’s plans for next term. The Croat started the season strongly but niggling injury issues have held back what could have been a productive campaign. After finishing the season with 18 goals, it will be down to a lack of fitness, not quality, if Colak doesn’t make the grade.

WASTEFUL HIBS RUE MISSED CHANCES

WHEN Kevin Nisbet levelled just two minutes after Hearts went down to ten men, Hibernian would have fancied their chances of winning an Edinburgh derby to leapfrog their rivals into fourth spot. Lee Johnson’s side had a man advantage for just over an hour but were wasteful in front of goal in a 1-1 draw that saw tensions spill over at fulltime. As Hearts breathed a huge sigh of relief, Hibs were left to rue missed chances.

ARMSTRONG TURNS ON THE STYLE

IT WAS little surprise that Kilmarnock’s most creative and dangerous player all season ensured top-flight football for the club. Danny Armstrong (right) set up the first goal, then won and converted the penalty to beat Ross County. He’s sure to be a key figure if Killie can kick on next season.

SOLID SAINTS ARE BACK TO THEIR BEST

STEVEN MacLEAN has done an excellent job in steadying the ship at St Johnstone after the split. The Perth Saints have become much more organised defensively. The 2-0 win over Livingston was the third clean sheet in Saints’ last five matches and they will be hoping to build on the return of a solid defensive foundation in the next campaign.
