Four cases are settled for Cricket Scotland
CRICKET SCOTLAND has concluded investigations into the first four cases which arose from the independent report into institutional racism. The governing body has agreed 18 action points arising from the four referrals, which were conducted by an independent panel made up of lawyers and representatives from the Sporting Equals race discrimination support service. They will be listed in an action plan which Cricket Scotland will soon publish but examples of lessons include updating the disciplinary code of conduct; establishing training on bullying, harassment and understanding of terminology; establishing whistleblowing procedures and a secure digital library of complaints, codes, disciplinary investigations and action. Cricket Scotland stated that the independent investigating team did not deem the four cases to require referral to a Conduct In Sport Panel hearing. A statement added: ‘Reasons included there being a lack of, or no, sufficient evidence to proceed further and/or other significant extenuating circumstances.’ Recently-appointed Cricket Scotland chief executive Pete Fitzboydon said: ‘I’m pleased that Cricket Scotland is now able to conclude the first cases that have been handed to us for a final decision. ‘The four cases highlighted issues within each that demonstrate that certain Cricket Scotland processes were lacking, and I am pleased that the learnings from these four cases are already being acted upon. ‘These conclusions have allowed us to see an independent process in action that is working well, providing thorough investigation with a positive focus on improving the way the sport is run.’
