Postecoglou vows there will be no complacency
for a 5-0 thrashing of Aberdeen last weekend. And, despite fevered speculation over an approach from Spurs for his services after the game, the Celtic boss trusts his big-game performers to keep their eye on the prize and deliver. ‘I’m not worried about them being complacent, irrespective of who we were facing in the final, it’s the make-up and character of this team that on a big day they will perform. It doesn’t guarantee the result but there will be no sense of complacency in their mind. ‘To be fair to the players, they’ve been pretty good apart from the last few weeks prior to the Aberdeen game. ‘After we beat Hearts to become the champions, it’s human nature that they’ve achieved their goal and my way of tricking them into trying to perform was to change the team and that didn’t work because the guys coming in hadn’t played for a while and it disrupted our cohesion. ‘But you saw against Aberdeen that they knew trophy day was a big day. Ultimately, it was a game of no consequence but they knew. ‘This group of players has always delivered on big days.’ Forced to scour British football in search of teams to play at a critical stage of the season, Inverness teed up a friendly with Dungannon Swifts. Acknowledging the problems posed by a lack of competitive game time, Postecoglou will take nothing for granted against a team being written off. ‘That’s a challenge for them but they won’t be wanting for motivation,’ he said. ‘They potentially have something special in their hands and for us to look for reasons why they might not be at their best is us falling into a trap.’
