Brian tuned out after Logan killed off

- By Stuart MacDonald

HE had a pivotal role in one of the most talked-about TV shows of recent years.

But Dundee-born actor Brian Cox has revealed he has not watched Succession since his character Logan Roy was written out of it – and he did not tune in to the finale last week.

Global media tycoon Roy was killed off in episode three of the last series of the HBO drama, which also stars Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin. Cox, 77, has said the foulmouthed character met his demise ‘too early’ and he felt ‘disinclined’ to keep watching.

Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, he said: ‘I have never liked watching myself for a start and somehow or other, because of what happened to Logan, I’ve been disinclined to watch the rest.

‘I knew how it was going to end because I knew Logan had already set it up. So I gather in the end ultimately Logan has won through, even though he’s in the grave.

‘It’s a strange situation. I don’t cling on to things, when it’s over, it’s over and I go. And I find that with this show, which has been one of the great shows of all time, especially for me, so I can’t complain.’

The star has previously said playing the ageing billionaire has been the highlight of his 60-year career. The part won him a Golden Globe for best actor in 2020 and he was nominated for an Emmy award.

Cox is to direct his first movie later this year, which is described as a ‘story of family, forgiveness and the bonding alchemy of whisky’.

The film, which will be shot in Scotland, is called Glenrothan and is set at a family-run distillery in the Highlands.
