Our titles have seen 0 nominees across a host of categories in this year’s awards – the newspaper industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

A total of ten Mail writers were shortlisted across 1 categories – and in some they were utterly dominant.

In the prestigious Columnist of the Year category two of the six nominees are Mail writers.

The peerless John MacLeod and his colleague Stephen Daisley will go head-to-head for the title, which is one of the most coveted in Scottish journalism.

Emma Cowing has made the shortlist for Feature Writer of the Year – a title she has previously won.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Daily Mail’s matchless coverage of the scandal over Health Secretary Michael Matheson’s £11,000 iPad bill has been nominated for Journalism Team of the Year, while Michael Blackley is a contender for the sought-after Political Journalist of the Year and also Scoop of the Year for his tireless work on the Scottish Daily Mail.

He will be up against Georgia Edkins, of The Scottish Mail on Sunday.

Georgia made the shortlist after an extraordinary year, which saw her reveal that officers had seized a motorhome from outside Nicola Sturgeon’s mother-in-law’s house as part of the police probe into SNP finances.

Remarkably, Georgia has also been named in the Reporter of the Year and Scoop of the Year categories following a series of agendasetting exclusives.

The Scottish Daily Mail’s Graham Grant is a former winner of the Reporter of the Year gong and has been recognised by judges in that category once again. The Home Affairs Editor has also made the list of five journalists who will battle it out in the Specialist Reporter of the Year group.

Former Journalist of the Year Heather Dewar has been nominated in four categories – Sports News Writer of the Year, Sports Feature Writer of the Year, Sports Columnist of the Year and the Nicola Barry Award for her work in the Scottish Daily Mail.

The Scottish Daily Mail’s powerful splash marking the moment a tearful Ms Sturgeon relinquished her role as First Minister is shortlisted in the Front Page of the Year category, while The Mail on Sunday has earned a place for its coverage of a destructive gas blast.

Wattie Cheung is in the running for News Photographer of the Year for his outstanding work in the Scottish Daily Mail.

The winners of the 45th Scottish Press Awards will be revealed at a ceremony in Glasgow in May.
