DOBIE LOVES POLE POSITION

-

SCRUM-HALF Jamie Dobie insists Glasgow Warriors are ‘right where we want to be’ going into the business end of the United Rugby Championship season. Gregor Hiddleston and Kyle Steyn both ran in a pair of tries as Franco Smith’s side went top of the table with a bonus-point 40-9 win over Zebre Parma on Saturday. Dobie and George Horne also crossed for the Warriors, and fly-half Ross Thompson converted five of the six tries. The Italians could only muster three Thomas Dominguez penalties at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi. Leinster’s 42-12 loss to Stormers means Warriors are now four points clear at the summit. The Scottish side now face Vodacom Bulls in South Africa before the return match against Zebre at Scotstoun — and Dobie is keen to harness their momentum. ‘The league is so tight this season,’ said Dobie. ‘We’re where we want to be at this point of the competition. Depending on other results, it’s on us to take the game in South Africa and hopefully another win against (Zebre). We want to be in the top end of the table — staying there is massively important as we get closer to the play-offs. ‘It’s an exciting time to have two competitive, undoubtedly challenging games. I’m looking forward to that challenge.’ On the performance in Parma, Dobie added: ‘We’re delighted to take the full five points. In terms of how the game went, it didn’t start how we wanted it to. ‘It was nice to get on the try sheet. I had to push quite far out on to the wing which I didn’t quite have the legs for last week against the Sharks. I was glad to still have some in the tank to get the score today.’ Edinburgh, meanwhile, picked up a valuable four points in their quest for an end of season play-off spot with a 24-7 victory in Cardiff.
