Splash of sunshine? It’s set to be a scorcher!

- By Krissy Storrar

SUN-SEEKERS are set to head for the great outdoors as Scotland enjoys what’s likely to be the hottest weekend of the year so far.

Beaches, parks and beer gardens are expected to be packed today as the country basks in wall-to-wall spring sunshine.

Temperatures are predicted to soar and could top the 7 .6F (24.2C) recorded as the hottest day of 2024 so far at Port Henderson, Ross-shire, last Friday.

As the weather warmed up yesterday, people flocked to the coast and lochs to make the most of the sunshine. Paddleboarders were out in force on Loch Lomond and swimmers took a dip in the Gourock outdoor pool in Renfrewshire. Aboyne in Aberdeenshire had reached 72.3F (22.4C) by early afternoon.

Clear skies last night were also predicted to give stargazers a spectacular show from the northern lights.

The West Coast and Glasgow will enjoy balmy temperatures tomorrow and better weather than the rest of the UK.

But the sunshine is not expected to last – thunderstorms will roll in tomorrow evening before cooler, wet weather arrives on Monday.

Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge said: ‘It looks like it is definitely on the cards that it will be the warmest weekend of the year.’ Meanwhile, in parts of England temperatures are expected to hit 80.6F (27C).
